About us

The Aboriginal Studies Association (ASA) is run by a group of dedicated volunteers with a passion for Aboriginal Education. With many years of experience across all stages and sectors, our Executive members meet regularly to foster and develop this priority area of education through resources, knowledge, and professional learning experiences.

Aboriginal Education For All

The ASA’s Vision Statement

The vision of the NSW Aboriginal Studies Association is to:

  • Promote the teaching of Aboriginal curriculum content at all levels of education in New South Wales

  • Support HSC students and teachers of Aboriginal Studies

  • Foster partnerships with local Aboriginal communities and appropriate stakeholders to support the development of Aboriginal Studies at all levels

  • Increase teacher and community awareness of and involvement in Aboriginal Studies at all levels of education

  • Develop and support ongoing curriculum and pedagogical practices that contribute to the improvement of Aboriginal student outcomes

  • Provide opportunities to engage in professional and personal learning and dialogue through the ongoing development of networks and learning communities

“Australia’s First Peoples are central to the narratives that make up our national story. Schools and teachers tell this story and sculpt perceptions about what matters, why it matters and what this means. The time has come to make something very clear: Aboriginal Studies matters”
